2. Traumatic life events. A death of a loved one, financial rut or other adversity might compel a person to kill him or herself.
3. History of suicide in the family. There is such a thing as “suicide contagion” in which a person is exposed to suicides and suicidal attempts often. This can become a risk factor for killing onself.
4. Family violence If one is physically or sexually abused, he or she might turn to suicide to end the ordeal.
5. Suicide attempt before He has done it before, why not do it again?
6. Alcohol and drug abuse An alcoholic or drug addict will reach a point when he will have no qualms on killing himself.
Depression is a problem that has to be uprooted to keep suicidal thoughts at bay. If a person is suicidal, it is a must that he receives professional treatment. Usually, those who are thinking of killing themselves do not know they need help.
Preventing suicide is no easy feat, either. It is in this light that a broad and extensive suicide prevention program must be established. These programs must zero in on the treatment of depression and drug abuse. Before being launched to the public, they must be scientifically assessed and tested first for effectiveness and safety. They must also be extensive and complex enough so that the effects will last a long time and eventually banish all suicidal thoughts. They must also be carried out according to the age, culture and gender of the suicidal patients.
Depression and suicide do go together, but if one works hard to combat depression thoughts of suicide will be banished.
Today the average duration of human life in the United States is just about 70 years for women and a little less for men. Conservative experts believe that man is really build to last about 100 years; and that medial advances and more healthful living habits could bring this about within a generation or two.
What good is it to add years to life if we do not also add life to years? In fact, unless people learn to enjoy life and to grow old gracefully, the extra years may be an additional burden.
From 18 to 30 years is roughly the period of highest physical and mental vigor. The experiences we accumulate from the day we are born help us to conserve and to use our physical and mental abilities more wisely, so that for some time after 30 years we are able to perform increasingly well in spite of slowly slipping vigor. After age 50 the increasing accumulation of experience is no longer able to offset the now more rapidly energy and therefore aging begins to assert itself noticeably and in many ways.
A number of things may come about gradually such as people who have not used eyeglasses before may at some time in their forties need them for reading, and in the fifties they usually need bifocals.
Also in the forties, people are likely to put on weight because there is a general slowdown in the oxidation rate of the aging body tissue. Also we tend to do less strenuous work with no reduction in the amount of food consumed.
And in the fifties there is likely to be some loss of hearing. Usually the high-pitched tomes go first, so words with the sounds of F, S, and TH are confused. A hearing aid may be needed in some cases.
Aging is generally accompanied by a loss in physical and mental flexibility. This is noticed in a tendency to become stiff in the joints; in slower comeback after a strenuous trip, excessive “night life,” or hard work; in slower healing of wounds, sore muscles, and sprains; in slower recovery of pep after an illness; and in greater difficulty to adjust to new people, new places, and new ideas.
Men, especially, will notice loss of muscular strength. There will be increased unsteadiness and delicate muscle movements will be more clumsy and the stride in waking will become shorter. The conclusion now is that the performance and ability of the elderly has long been underestimated and can be greatly improved by a proper diet, sleep and exercise along with rest and relaxation.
Many elderly people tend to lose their joy and will to live and chronic worriers may mope around and withdraw. Medical authorities now say that laughter is one of the best medicines for the elderly. You can always keep your sense of humor tuned up by surrounding yourself with pleasant and interesting people. Just act your age and don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself even when no else is around.
Now that we all know the role that physical activity plays in our lives, remember to do something physical every day. The joints must be used or quite simply they will tighten with age creating that stooped worn out appearance we so often associate with getting old. Keep yourself flexible and fit on an exercise program consistent with your ability.

The Struggle To Keep It In: Living With Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence is the inability to keep urine in the bladder. This is due to loss of voluntary control to the muscles that are responsible for keeping urine in the bladder, and for passing urine. Even if urinary incontinence affects millions of people, it isn’t a normal part of aging or, in women, an inevitable consequence of childbirth or changes after menopause. It’s a medical condition with many possible causes, some relatively simple and self-limited and others more complex.
There are five kinds of urinary incontinence:
Stress incontinence. This is due to weakening of pelvic floor muscles. Accidents may happen when you cough, sneeze, laugh, exercise or any other movements that add intra-abdominal pressure or pressure to the bladder, causing small amounts of urine to escape.
Urge incontinence or Hypertonic. This is when you feel an urge to urinate for no apparent reason. The most common cause of this is involuntary and inappropriate detrusor muscle contraction. The detrusor muscle is the muscle responsible for bladder contraction when passing urine. Urge incontinence may be caused by local or surrounding infection, inflammation, or irritation of the detrusor muscle; or a defective CNS inhibitory response. Some doctors may call it as a spastic, or overactive bladder. People with urge incontinence usually feel the need to urinate even by simply hearing the sound of gushing water, touching something watery, or drinking a small amount of water.
Functional incontinence. This occurs when the person does not recognize the urge to go to the toilet to urinate or fails to get to the toilet in time.
Overflow incontinence or Hypotonic. This occurs when the persons bladder is always full that it leaks urine. Weak bladder muscles or a blocked urethra may result in incomplete emptying of the bladder, causing this kind of incontinence.
Transient incontinence. This is temporary urinary incontinence brought about my medications and certain medical conditions that may cause urinary tract obstruction.
There are many ways to treat incontinence, here are a few:
Exercise. This requires exercising the muscles of the pelvis. Kegel exercises may help strengthen the muscles responsible for controlling urination. Strengthening or retaining pelvic floor muscle functionality may help reduce stress incontinence.
Vaginal cone therapy. This is done with the use of a set of five vaginal cones of different weights. The patient inserts the small plastic cone inside her vagina where it is help by a mild reflex action of the pelvic flood muscles. Vaginal cone therapy is done to strengthen the appropriate muscles of the pelvic floor.
Bladder training. This is done by taking trips to the bathroom at certain times before he or she involuntarily leaks. This helps condition the body to set a schedule for storing and emptying urine.
Medications. Some drugs inhibit contraction of an overactive bladder. Some medications relax the bladder to completely empty it during urination. Some medications tighten the bladder muscles, preventing leackage.
Surgery. This is suggested only in cases where other treatments have already been tried but failed to work.

Incontinence often brings with it a feeling of shame, and it may sometimes make a person to isolate himself from society in fear of being made fun of. Urinary incontinence is no laughing matter. However, you must not be afraid to seek medical help about this concern. The sooner you get over this hurdle, the sooner you can get back to a life without worrying if youre going to make it to the toilet when you need to urinate.
